Our Learning

Our Curriculum

We empower students through an inquiry-based curriculum aligned with the Victorian Curriculum F–10, covering core subjects and key capabilities while supporting diverse learning needs.

Inquiry Learning

Inquiry learning engages students in exploration through questioning and investigation, focusing on Personal Identity, Environmental Sustainability, The Physical World, and Social Responsibility.

Literacy

Literacy is taught daily through Reading, Writing, Spelling, and Speaking & Listening, using approaches like CAFE, VCOP, and SMART Spelling, along with guided activities to develop oral language skills.

Numeracy

Numeracy lessons focus on key areas like Number, Measurement, and Statistics, using hands-on tasks, problem-solving, and personalized instruction to build foundational skills.

Library

The library offers weekly sessions for borrowing, reading, and research, hosting events like Book Fair and Book Week. It’s regularly updated with popular titles, and students have access during lunchtimes and after school.

Specialist Programs

Specialist programs include Performing Arts (music, drama, media), Japanese language and culture with a tour to Japan, Physical Education promoting fitness and teamwork, Visual Arts fostering creativity and expression, and STEM programs focused on hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering, and math.

Digital Technologies

Students are prepared for a tech-driven world through the 4Cs—creativity, communication, collaboration, and critical thinking—using tools like BYOD laptops, iPads, robotics, and STEM activities, supported by dedicated IT staff and advanced resources such as interactive TVs and green screens.

Wellbeing Program

Our school fosters a safe, inclusive environment focused on positive behaviour and wellbeing, with a no-tolerance bullying policy. HERRRBY, the mascot, promotes core values—Honesty, Empathy, Respect, Resilience, Responsibility, and Being Yourself—through events that encourage kindness and community.

Additional Programs

Our school offers a range of programs, including Swimming, Mathletics, Ski Camp, Leadership, Japanese trips, School Camps, Musical, and clubs like Gardening, Chess, Robotics, Drama, and Ukulele. The GVPS community would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land our school is on, the Bunurong people of the Kulin Nation, where we meet, learn and play. We pay our respects to their elders past and present. This land always was and always will be Aboriginal Land.
