Physical Education
Our Physical Education program provides students with the opportunity to develop fundamental movement skills, the chance to build fitness, learn new skills, develop confidence, and enjoy a wide range of sports and activities. The focus is on participation, teamwork, and striving for personal bests.
As an introduction to Physical Education at Gardenvale Primary School students are immersed in the FUN of physical activity and cooperative games. They are given opportunities to play with a diverse range of apparatus and are instructed how to use established skills to enhance their ability and enjoyment. Students are carefully supervised whilst playing specific competitive minor games that relate to major sports. All Prep students participate in a Perceptual Motor Program which focuses on developing gross and fine motor skills, balance, coordination, spatial awareness and promotes overall development.
The Physical Education program includes students learning about the different classification of sports and participating in a range on striking/fielding games, invasion, net wall, and target games. Students take part in fitness testing in Year 5 & 6 setting personal fitness goals and tracking their progress. All students engage in our athletics and gymnastics programs and benefit from specialised sports clinics designed to refine skills, technique, and game play.
Gardenvale Primary School provides students with exciting opportunities to participate in a wide range of sporting events and competitions. Students in Year 4-6 take part in the House Swimming, Cross Country, and Athletics Carnivals, where they compete to earn points for their house and the chance to be crowned House Champions. Individual excellence is also recognised, with Age Group Champions awards.
High achieving athletes in all house events can progress from the house carnivals through to District, Divisional, Regional, and State Finals.
In Year 6, students participate in the Interschool Sports Program during both the summer and winter terms, representing the school across a variety of team sports and competitions.
