Our Parents

As much as we are watching our children grow, they too are watching us to see what we choose to do with our lives. Be your child’s inspiration, make a difference and show your child the importance of being an active part of their community.

There is no greater lesson than to lead by example, so choose to contribute to our wonderful school today.

Parents' Association:

The Parents and Friends' Association (PFA) works together to enhance the school community and provide meaningful connections between parents, carers, staff and students. We aim to facilitate and develop relationships that will help to advance and support the mission of Gardenvale Primary School.

We welcome and encourage all parents and carers to actively get involved in our activities through attending events, raising funds and supporting the various projects and programs provided by the association and the school.

Most importantly we are a supportive and inclusive association that reflects the diversity of our parents, providing us all with the opportunity to build life-long networks and friendships.

The Gardenvale Primary School Parents and Friends' Association aims to:

  • Facilitate the flow of information between families and the School

  • Provide opportunities for parents and carers to become more actively involved in the school through Parents' Association meetings, groups and activities

  • Create opportunities to build personal supportive networks

  • Enhance school equipment and resources through the facilitation of fundraising events

  • Offer volunteer opportunities that acknowledge the talents, energy and time of parents and carers!

  • Proud of our achievements

  • Our fundraising enables the school to purchase things that benefit the students.

Over the past few years, our PFA fundraising efforts have purchased or contributed towards:

  • Refurbishing the areas outside Year Prep & Year 1

  • Playground equipment

  • Air-conditioning for all classrooms

  • Vegetable garden and rainwater tank

  • Interactive whiteboards for classrooms

  • Synthetic turf

  • Purchases like keyboards, data projector, piano, BBQ's, marquee, stage curtain and other classroom equipment.

Building a sense of community

We want your whole family to feel like it belongs here, to make some really good friends to share the schooling experience with, and to look back on the seven or more years you will be with GPS, with happy memories. So much of what we do also aims at getting families to meet outside of school hours, and this particularly benefits working parents so that they can establish school friends.

Being involved in PA activities, to whatever degree you are able, has one other benefit. It shows your child that you are actively interested and committed to their school, and that you don't always need to benefit directly from helping out.

Classroom Representatives

Every classroom in Gardenvale Primary School has a classroom representative who liaises with the classroom teacher and the parents in the classroom to plan events / activities, organise collections for tasks, attend excursions and assist with program delivery.

Parent Financial Information

Gardenvale Primary School offers a comprehensive education program which aims to deliver engaging learning outcomes for all students. While the Department of Education and Training funds a standard curriculum program, many of the highly valued programs and resources provided by our school go above and beyond this funding and could not be provided without the financial support of parents.

In order to maintain and enhance high quality teaching and learning programs and resources, School Council has approved the following 2021 parent payment charges. Gardenvale Primary School makes every effort to keep the cost of items and activities to a minimum and affordable for all parents.

Financial Support For Families

Gardenvale Primary School understands that some families may experience financial difficulty and offers a range of support options, including:

  • The school’s second–hand uniform shop

  • State Schools Relief Fund (SSRF)

  • The Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF)

For a confidential discussion about accessing these services, or if you would like to discuss alternative payment arrangements, please contact:

Maree Prosser – Business Manager – Phone: 03 95962871

Payment Methods

Parent payments and contributions are currently made via Compass app which is free.

Compass saves you time by

  • allowing you to pay for school items directly from your phone

  • reduces the need for your child to bring cash to school

The office will receive a generated report detailing your school payments. Orders will be generated separately for the Uniform Shop and will be filled accordingly.

Should you have any questions regarding the use of Compass app, please contact the Senior School office. We hope you enjoy this new flexibility in managing your school payments.

Refunds

Refunds will be worked out on a case by case basis. Gardenvale Primary has the discretion to provide refunds to families and will do so where it is reasonable and fair (for example, if the school has not incurred a cost).

If the school has incurred costs, the school will act reasonably and take into consideration the Financial Help for Families Policy and relevant arrangements, including support for families experiencing hardship. For example, the schools will consider refunding families for unavoidable event cancellations if a family experiences a crisis or sudden serious illness and the student can no longer attend the event (and a medical certificate is provided).

When the school provides a refund, the family will need to advise their bank account details in writing and the funds will be electronically transferred.
